NEW DELHI — In a bid to strengthen its regulatory outreach and public policy strategy in South Asia, OpenAI has appointed Ms. Yashita Jhurani as its Policy Advisor for India.
Her appointment comes at a crucial juncture as India actively designs frameworks for artificial intelligence governance, safety standards, and intellectual property.
Navigating the Indian AI Regulatory Landscape
Ms. Jhurani brings a strong track record in government relations, investment facilitation, and academic strategy to her new role:

Diverse Executive Portfolio: Before joining OpenAI, she spent two years as the Associate Director of Strategy and Partnerships for the GxD hub at Krea University.

Government & Investment Expertise: Prior to her academic stint, Ms. Jhurani served at Invest India—the national investment promotion and facilitation agency—where she successfully rose to the level of Assistant Vice President before stepping down in October 2023.

The Policy Mandate: As Policy Advisor, Ms. Jhurani will lead OpenAI’s engagement with Indian policymakers, industry bodies, and academic institutions. She will play a key role in aligning the organization’s AI deployment strategies with national guidelines and digital public infrastructure (DPI) priorities.
