HOWRAH – In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Government of West Bengal has announced the appointment of two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to key positions within the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
The notification, issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on May 10, 2026, states that the Governor has approved these appointments with “immediate effect and until further order(s).”
Key Appointments
The following officers have been reassigned to the CMO:
| Sl. No. | Name of the IAS Officer | Previous Designation | New Designation |
| 1. | Shri P. Promoth, IAS (WB: 2019) | Joint Secretary, MS & ME & T Department | Joint Secretary, Chief Minister’s Office |
| 2. | Shri Navneet Mittal, IAS (WB: 2020) | ADM, Paschim Medinipur | Joint Secretary, Chief Minister’s Office |
Administrative Context
The order, signed by Rajesh Pandey, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal, emphasizes that these transfers have been made “in the interest of public service.”
The reshuffle comes at a notable time for the state administration. Following the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, which saw a shift in the political landscape, the newly formed government under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari appears to be streamlining its core team at Nabanna.
The appointment of Shri P. Promoth and Shri Navneet Mittal—both relatively young officers from the 2019 and 2020 batches respectively—is seen as a move to bring fresh energy and administrative efficiency to the Chief Minister’s inner circle.
Copies of the notification have been forwarded to all relevant departments, including the Advisor to the Chief Minister, the Principal Accountant General, and the District Magistrates of the respective divisions to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.
