NEW DELHI: In a statement that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Dharmapuri Arvind has claimed that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy might eventually dump the Congress party and jump ship to the BJP, mirroring the famous political defection of Suvendu Adhikari in West Bengal.
The Nizamabad MP asserted that the Congress high command committed a massive blunder by elevating Revanth Reddy to the top post while completely bypassing veteran party loyalists who had dedicated decades to the organization. Drawing a direct parallel to Suvendu Adhikari—who famously left the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to join the BJP and ultimately rose to become the Chief Minister of West Bengal—Arvind hinted that a similar political script could unfold in Telangana.
The “Join Me” Speculation
The BJP MP’s comments carry massive political weight, coming right on the heels of a highly discussed public interaction in Hyderabad, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly addressed Revanth Reddy on stage. The Prime Minister had crypticly remarked: “Aap jahan pahunchna chahte hain, nahi pahunch payenge… achha hai ki mere se hi judo” (“You may not reach where you want to reach… it is better that you join hands with me”).
While Revanth Reddy had merely smiled at the Prime Minister’s open invitation at the time, Dharmapuri Arvind stoked the fire further.
“I am just a ground-level worker in the BJP, so I don’t know the exact strategic link behind the Prime Minister’s words,” Arvind said. “But I really wouldn’t be surprised if something major is brewing behind the scenes, heavily reminiscent of what Suvendu Adhikari did.”
Predicting a Disastrous Defeat for Congress
Stepping up his attack, Arvind prophesied a complete collapse of the ruling dispensation in the next state elections. He claimed that under Revanth Reddy’s leadership, the Congress is steering toward an unprecedented, disastrous defeat in the 2028–29 Assembly elections, drawing parallels to the party’s historic drubbings in 1985 and 1994.
Promising “high-decibel politics” over the next two years, the BJP MP maintained that the saffron party is on an unstoppable trajectory to form the government in Telangana. With the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections scheduled for later this year, Arvind’s provocative claims are guaranteed to provoke aggressive counter-attacks from the Congress camp.
