CHENNAI: In a sweeping administrative overhaul, the Government of Tamil Nadu has issued a major government order [G.O (Rt.) No.1883] through the Public (Special-A) Department dated May 29, 2026, orchestrating a massive reshuffle of senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers across vital state departments, public sector units, and district collectorates.
The extensive directive, signed under the authority of the state government by DoPT Director Annies Kanmani Joy, balances strategic secretarial rotations with the creation of new temporary administrative posts to optimize departmental efficacy and corporate governance.
Creation of Temporary Administrative Posts
Under Rule 4(2) of the IAS (Cadre) Rules, 1954, the state has accorded official sanction for the creation of multiple temporary posts, each mandated for a period of one year or until the need ceases, whichever is earlier:
