CHANDIGARH — Ending months of administrative uncertainty and high court scrutiny, the Punjab Government on Friday, October 9, officially appointed 1992-batch IPS officer Gaurav Yadav as the state’s regular Director General of Police (DGP). Yadav, who has been leading the state police force in an officiating capacity since July 2022, will serve a fixed minimum tenure of two years from the date he assumes charge.
The formal appointment brings Punjab’s top law enforcement leadership in full compliance with the landmark Supreme Court directives in the Prakash Singh case, which mandate fixed tenures for state police chiefs chosen from a Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) panel.
