NEW DELHI – In a significant move following the recent electoral setbacks, Jitendra Singh, the General Secretary In-Charge of Assam for the All India Congress Committee (AICC), has officially tendered his resignation.
In a letter dated May 4, 2026, addressed to Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Singh announced his departure from the post with immediate effect.
Taking Responsibility
Singh cited the “deeply disappointing” recent election results as the primary reason for his decision. Eschewing excuses, the General Secretary took full accountability for the party’s performance in the state.
“I take full responsibility for my role in the outcome. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to meet the expectations of the people of Assam whom we sought to serve,” Singh wrote in the letter.
Paving Way for “Fresh Leadership”
The resignation appears to be a strategic move aimed at internal restructuring. Singh noted that stepping aside is in the “best interest of the organization,” expressing a desire to allow for fresh leadership and a renewed direction within the Assam wing of the party.
Continued Commitment
Despite stepping down from his specific role in Assam, Singh emphasized his unwavering loyalty to the Congress Party. He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and thanked the people and party workers of Assam for their support.
Singh concluded by stating he remains committed to the party’s vision and will continue to support Congress efforts in whatever capacity the leadership deems appropriate.
