NEW DELHI: In a major top-level deployment within India’s scientific administration, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the assignment of additional administrative responsibilities to renowned scientist Dr. (Ms) N. Kalaiselvi.
According to an official notification (No. 36/01/2026-EO(SM-I)(2)) issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on May 29, 2026, Dr. Kalaiselvi will take over the apex executive role at the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Current Profile: Dr. N. Kalaiselvi serves as the Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-cum-Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).

Additional Charge: She has been assigned additional charge of the post of Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Tenure and Timeline: The transition is slated to take effect upon the superannuation of the incumbent Secretary, Dr. M. Ravichandran, on May 31, 2026. Dr. Kalaiselvi will steer the ministry until the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
