Shri Iqbal Singh Chahal (IAS 1989), the former BMC Commissioner renowned for the “Mumbai Model” of pandemic management, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Mumbai Police Housing Township Project. Following his retirement as Additional Chief Secretary (Home) on January 31, 2026, Chahal will lead this massive ₹20,000 crore initiative starting February 1, 2026. Holding a rank equivalent to a Minister of State (MoS), his five-year tenure will focus on delivering approximately 45,000 homes for Mumbai’s police personnel, addressing a long-standing need for quality housing for the city’s frontline forces.
