The West Bengal government has officially constituted a four-member Seventh State Pay Commission to overhaul the salary and allowance structure for state government employees, naming former IAS officer Atanu Chakraborty as its Chairperson.
Chakraborty, a 1985-batch retired IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre, brings deep financial administrative experience to the role. He previously served as the Union Economic Affairs Secretary in the Ministry of Finance (2019–2020) and Secretary of DIPAM. Most recently, he served as the part-time Chairman of HDFC Bank until stepping down earlier this year.
