RIYADH/NEW DELHI – National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval concluded a high-profile diplomatic mission to Riyadh on Sunday, reinforcing the deepening strategic alliance between India and Saudi Arabia. The visit, occurring against a backdrop of shifting geopolitical dynamics, focused on energy security, regional stability, and bilateral defense cooperation.
Upon his arrival on April 19, Doval was received by Indian Ambassador Dr. Suhel Khan and Saudi Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Dr. Saud Al-Sati, signaling the high level of importance both nations attach to the dialogue.
Strengthening the Strategic Pillar
The NSA engaged in a series of intensive deliberations with the Kingdom’s top leadership:
-
Energy Security: Doval met with Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman to discuss long-term energy partnerships and supply chain stability.
-
Diplomatic Coordination: In talks with Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the focus remained on maritime security and regional peacekeeping efforts.
-
Security Framework: Meetings with Saudi NSA Dr. Musaed Al-Aiban centered on counter-terrorism and intelligence sharing.
India’s Proactive Global Diplomacy
This visit follows a week of intense diplomatic activity for the NSA, coming just days after his talks with Ukrainian security chief Rustem Umerov. Together, these engagements highlight India’s “multi-aligned” foreign policy:
-
Regional Stability: Leveraging ties with Riyadh to ensure stability in the Middle East.
-
Conflict Resolution: Maintaining a consistent stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, advocating for peace through dialogue.
-
Economic Interests: Protecting vital trade and energy routes in the Gulf.
The Embassy of India in Riyadh described the visit as a success, noting that the discussions covered a broad spectrum of “mutual interests” that will further cement the India-Saudi partnership in the years to come.
