LONDON — In a major leadership shift at one of the world’s most storied advertising agencies, Ogilvy has announced that Patou Nuytemans, CEO for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), will depart the agency at the end of May 2026. Her exit marks the conclusion of a distinguished 30-year career with the firm.
Nuytemans will remain in her current role through the end of May to facilitate a “smooth transition” to a successor, who has yet to be publicly named.
A Three-Decade Transformation Journey
Joining Ogilvy Belgium in 1993, Nuytemans rose through the ranks to become one of the agency’s most influential global leaders. Her tenure is defined by her ability to lead during “tectonic” shifts in the advertising landscape:
-
Digital Pioneer: As EMEA Chief Digital Officer for over 15 years, she transitioned Ogilvy into a digital-first agency and led the pivotal acquisition of Social.Lab in 2013.
-
MENA Revitalization: As CEO of Memac Ogilvy (2017), she achieved double-digit growth and modernized the network across the Middle East and North Africa.
-
EMEA Leadership: Since taking the helm as EMEA CEO in 2021, she has overseen 35 markets, driving strategic growth and the integration of AI-led solutions into creative workflows.
The Industry Responds
Global CEO of Ogilvy, Laurent Ezekiel, praised her rare ability to both envision the future of marketing and operationalize it:
“Patou leaves behind a stronger, more connected, and more capable Ogilvy. From modernizing our expertise for the AI era to spearheading the strategic renewal of EMEA, her impact has been profound.”
What’s Next for Patou and Ogilvy?
In her departure statement, Nuytemans expressed gratitude for a career that took her across three continents—France, the US, UK, South Africa, and the Middle East. She hinted at a continued focus on organizational transformation and people development in her next chapter.
The Search for a Successor:
Ogilvy has not yet announced who will fill the EMEA CEO role. Industry eyes are currently on high-ranking internal leaders, such as Ben Messiaen (Chief Client Officer, EMEA), who recently lauded Nuytemans’ “high bar” for creative excellence.
The transition comes as parent company WPP continues its broader strategy of connecting capabilities across its global network to handle the rapid rise of AI and influencer-led marketing.
