NEW DELHI: In a significant development for the Indian judiciary, the President of India has appointed five new judges to the Supreme Court of India. The elevation includes four sitting Chief Justices of various high courts and one prominent Senior Advocate.
The official announcement was shared on June 1, 2026, by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, who extended his best wishes to the newly appointed judges. The appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, following necessary consultations with the Chief Justice of India.

Shri Justice Sheel Nagu: Elevating from his current role as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
