In a major administrative decision signaling continuity at the highest levels of internal security oversight, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a one-year service extension for Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, IAS (SK:89).
According to an official notification issued on Wednesday by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Mohan’s tenure as Home Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been extended beyond August 22, 2026, up to August 22, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The extension was granted by relaxing the provisions of FR 56(d) and Rule 16 (1A) of the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958. The order (No. 36/01/2026-EO(SM-I)(2)) was issued under the signature of Manisha Saxena, Secretary to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet & Establishment Officer.
