Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a weekly Jansunwai at her residence this morning. She sustained injuries to her hand and head after a man in his 40s, identified as Rajesh Sakriya from Rajkot, Gujarat, suddenly attacked her. Security personnel immediately overpowered him, and he is currently being questioned.
Senior BJP leaders and Delhi Police officials, including Commissioner SBK Singh, rushed to the CM’s residence. Preliminary information suggests the attacker was upset over the Supreme Court’s recent order to round up stray dogs in Delhi NCR and shift them to shelters.
BJP leader Harish Khurana condemned the incident, calling for an investigation into whether the attack was politically motivated. Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa alleged it could be part of a political conspiracy.
Opposition leader Atishi of AAP also condemned the attack, saying: “In a democracy, there is a place for disagreement and protest, but there is no place for violence. Hoping the Chief Minister is completely safe and strict action is taken against the culprits.”
Police sources said an inquiry has been ordered into the serious security lapse, with Commissioner SBK Singh personally monitoring the probe.
