As GAIL (India) Limited—the nation’s largest natural gas company—approaches a leadership transition, the Government of India is yet to formalize the appointment of Mr. Deepak Gupta as the next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD). Mr. Gupta, currently serving as the Director (Projects), was previously recommended for the top post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). The urgency for the official order stems from the upcoming vacancy on March 1, 2026, when the tenure of the incumbent CMD, Mr. Sandeep Kumar Gupta, is scheduled to conclude.
