Centre Approves Empanelment of 68 IPS Officers for Inspector General Posts; 55 Names Disallowed, 6 Deferred

NEW DELHI: In a major administrative shake-up, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has cleared the empanelment of 68 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers for holding Inspector General (IG) or equivalent posts at the Centre.

According to an official confidential Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of Personnel and Training) dated May 25, 2026, the decisions were taken following a suitability assessment based on a proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

While 68 officers secured approval, the ACC explicitly turned down the empanelment of 55 IPS officers and deferred the decisions for 6 others. The panel also set 8.76 as the provisional cut-off score for the 2008 batch.
